The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Student Movement started out as the Syrian Student Conference in 1907. Church leaders recognized that students required a path to deepen their spirituality and loyalty to the Orthodox faith, leading to the establishment of various groups on college campuses across India.
Saint Gregorios of Parumala was selected as the patron saint for the group, and the name was officially changed to MGOCSM in 1960. Today, it stands as the oldest Christian student organization in India.
The MGOCSM of St. Thomas Orthodox Church, Houston is a vibrant group of high school and college students who come together in Christian fellowship. Our goal is to grow closer to Christ and our Orthodox heritage through weekly meetings involving praise, Bible studies, and activities.
We are actively involved in community service and fellowship with our sister churches in Houston: St. Stephen's, St. Gregorios, and St. Mary’s. Key events include Back to School Retreats, Lenten Retreats, Thanksgiving Potlucks, and local volunteering.
Our annual New Year Retreat has become a landmark event in the American Diocese, bringing together hundreds of youth from across the country for spiritual nourishment and multi-day fellowship.
Vocation: We are proud to have three members who dedicated their lives to the Church: Fr. Binu Mathew, Fr. Christopher Mathews, and Fr. Jacob Kurian.
Participating in the Holy Qurbana is how we worship our Creator on Sundays. Participating in MGOCSM is how we learn to worship Him with the rest of our lives.
