Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam (MMVS) is the Women's Association of the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church. MMVS was founded in 1920 with the aim of the spiritual progress of women of the Malankara Orthodox Church. The founders named it "Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam" after the Blessed Virgin Mary whom they accepted as their interceding saint. The motto of the organization is "Pray, Act, and Shine".
MMVS is one of the major ministries of the church encompassing all the female members above the age of 18 years. It is spread throughout the world in all the 28 dioceses and functioning in all parishes of the church. The Church has a central committee for this spiritual organization that encourages Church wide and diocese-wide conferences, retreats, seminars, and other related programs for the spiritual nourishment of the women of our Church. In the South-West American Diocese, this organization is spiritually being strengthened under the leadership of His. Grace.Dr.Zacharias Mar Aprem. MMVS has got seven main regions and we are under South- Houston region which consist of 10 Churches, and each region has its own regional secretaries.
The MMVS unit of our parish, under the leadership of our clergy, organizes monthly prayer meetings, bible study, Talent competition, Annual Exams, Essay competition, participate in annual conferences, and supports different parish and diocesan level charity projects. Following are some of the projects that MMVS support:
The Feast of Dormition of St. Mary, the Mother of God, and the patron of this ministry, is designated as Women's day by our Church and is celebrated with special prayers and activities on August 15.
The Diocesan led Bible Study Classes will be on Wednesdays at 8:00PM Central Time.
